Plastic Free July is here.

Thanks to documentaries like Seaspiracy and War On Plastic, we're all much more aware of the plastic crisis facing our planet than we were ten years ago. But we're not going to lie – making big changes in regards to consumerism, waste and plastic is no mean feat in our modern lifestyles and sometimes it feels like every plastic-free solution comes with yet another possible problem. In short: it can be hugely overwhelming.

While it's time that governments and corporations started to enforce big changes, every little bit does help, which is why initiatives like 'Plastic Free July' can be really helpful in making us all a little bit more aware of what we're using, producing and ultimately wasting.

So if you'd like to do your bit this Plastic Free July, we've rounded up some of the best plastic free beauty products that you could swap out for the month. And who knows, you might discover a new favourite and realise that your plastic free swap is actually a long-term solution.

The personal care category is one of the easiest areas where you can make eco-friendly switches. From embracing the humble soap bar to switching out your plastic toothbrush for a bamboo option, there are lots of plastic free beauty options on the high street ready to give your bathroom an eco-friendly switch-up.

If you're someone who likes a wet wipe – Wype is for you. The personal care gel is designed to be pumped onto your loo roll before you *ahem* wipe leaving you feeling fresh – without the guilt of those drain-clogging wet wipes that take years to decompose.

Going plastic free shouldn't mean you have to scrimp on your luxe beauty buys. This exfoliating body bar smells incredible, while finely milled, biodegradable bamboo powder works to scrub away any areas of dull, dry skin.

Scandi-inspired Grüum offers affordable, eco-friendly options for your bathroom. This peppermint and poppy seed body wash bar is seriously refreshing and uplifting.

If you're still using a manual plastic toothbrush, it's time you upgraded to an eco-friendly option. These bamboo toothbrushes are great and make zero difference to your oral care experience – but a lot of difference to how much plastic waste you produce.

These clever body wash sheets are completely waste free. They simply dissolve with water, leaving you clean with zero product packaging. Rich in aloe leaf, eucalyptus, shea butter, almond oil, and sunflower oil, Plus Body Wash creates a transcendent shower experience that cares for both your body and the planet. Smart.

In a bid to make periods more sustainable, Dame offer plastic-free and organic period solutions. This Tampon Starter Set is delivered through your letterbox whenever you need – just adjust, skip or cancel at any time.

Lush are a great brand for offering plastic free packaging and this Joints Massage Bar is one of our faves. Warm between the palms or smooth it over the body to target and soothe areas of physical tension – perfect for use post gym class.

Another plastic free solution that'll have you forgetting that you bought it for its eco-friendly points is this dreamy soap bar from Malin + Goetz. Perfect for unwinding at the end of a busy day, it lathers into a light, frothy (non-stripping) foam that cherishes skin, with the brand's iconic Rum Eau de Toilette to wrap you in smooth, boozy warmth.

Skincare is a tricky category when it comes to packaging: often because plastic is a very cheap and efficacious way of keeping ingredients stable, hygienic and our products potent. But there are definitely some great plastic free skincare swaps that you can make. From cleansing bars to exfoliators and even eco-friendly moisturiser – here are some of our favourites…

Made from 75% natural ingredients and perfect for your face and body, Gallinée's Cleansing Bar is brimming with the brand's scientifically-formulated complex of prebiotics alongside lactic acid that nourishes and protects your skin’s good bacteria while removing the bad.

This deeply hydrating, fast-absorbing face moisturiser helps to nourish and brighten the skin. Made with finely-ground powder of discarded argan shells (a natural by-product of the argan oil industry and rich in vitamin E) it's also blended with skin-soothing cocoa butter, aloe vera and blood orange. Simply divine.

This cult cleansing bar (and one of my personal favourites, FYI) is brilliant at tackling breakouts thanks to its blend of organic activated charcoal and tea tree oil. While it's housed in a (reusable and recyclable pouch) you can also buy it in a paper refill pack, making it totally plastic free.

This sweet little exfoliator leaves your skin feeling soft and smooth – without overly stripping the skin. Jojoba wax balls clear the face of dead skin cells before apricot oil gently nourishes it to leave your skin extra soft.

Hair care is another area in which plastic free options are becoming more and more readily available. While shampoo bars once left your hair feeling straw-like, brands have tweaked formulas and upped the ante to provide eco-friendly hair care options that are just as good as their plastic packaged counterparts.

The brand’s bestselling shampoo is now available in bar form, KMS Head Remedy Solid Sensitive Shampoo lets you care for your hair and the environment at the same time. Carefully formulated for delicate scalps, this sensitive shampoo is fragrance free and pH balanced to keep the scalp calm and free from irritation.

This hydrating shampoo and conditioner set is ideal for people with normal to dry hair and/or sensitive scalps. The plastic free, paraben free, cruelty free, vegan shampoo and conditioner bars are rich in coconut oil for nourishment and hydration and have a light coconut fragrance.

Not only do Garnier's clever 'no rinse' conditioners help you cut down on water waste (it's said that you'll save up to 100L of water per tube), they're housed in FSC certified cardboard tubes helping you massively cut down on plastic.

Yep, even your dry shampoo can be eco-friendly. This 100% natural powder mops up grease and oil in between washes while the cardboard packaging means you're exposed to zero aerosol chemicals – like isobutane, butane, and aluminum.

The trickiest of the lot: plastic free make-up. While it's hard to package cosmetics completely plastic free, it is becoming possible. Plus, there are also lots of refillable options – which while they might not be 100% plastic free – if you commit to refilling your favourite lipstick (rather than chucking the empty packaging and re-buying the bulk of it back) then you can massively cut down on your waste and personal plastic footprint.

These lip-to-lip multi-use balms are great for not only cutting out plastic, but cutting down on the amount of products you need to buy! Perfect for use on the lids, lips and cheeks they've got a balm-like texture and are packed with nourishing oils, butters and antioxidants to nourish and hydrate the skin.

The OG in refillable make-up, Kjaer Weis beauty buys are as environmentally conscious as they are chic. This peachy-toned bronzer is perfect for achieving a natural, sun-kissed complexion.

While these beautiful Rose Inc lipsticks aren't completely plastic free – they are refillable and designed to be used again and again, massively cutting down on your plastic waste. Plus, the colours and texture is too good to miss.

Foundations and tinted moisturisers are notoriously hard to make eco-friendly but Authored may have cracked it. Housed in 100% recyclable aluminium (with a plastic cap that is also 100% recyclable) this dreamy tinted moisturiser is just about as eco-friendly as they get. Plus, the formula inside is 5*.
