Black Friday 2021 falls on Friday, 26th November. Cyber Monday will follow on Monday, 29th November.
Black Friday is a sales event that started in the US on the Friday that follows Thanksgiving. This Friday marks the beginning of the Christmas season and holiday shopping, with retailers slashing prices to entice shoppers to get a headstart on their Christmas gift buying.
According to the Australian Retailers Association’s (ARA) CEO, Paul Zahra, the Black Friday sales are, “providing businesses with strong sales momentum, with $5.4 billion forecast to be spent over the [sales period], which is nearly a million dollars a minute.” This is great news for businesses as they try to bounce back from lockdowns and restrictions brought on by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
Cyber Monday is the sales event that follows directly after Black Friday – with just a few days between them.
Cyber Monday initially began in 2005 as the online version of Black Friday, back when online shopping wasn’t as popular.
Now, Black Friday and Cyber Monday are combined, offering sales in both physical stores and online platforms. Some retailers like to refer to it as “Cyber Weekend”, as the deals will last from Friday to the end of Monday.
